Air Supremacy
Air Supremacy is a cross between a top-down arcade shooter and a combat flight simulator.
The controls are meant to be simple, but the AI will require a great deal of strategy
to defeat.
The game includes a variety of missions taking place in various eras
throughout history. With a multitude of planes to choose from, the game
provides excellent replay value. Whether flying stealthy fighters, massive bombers,
or attack helicopters, the player will has to quickly adjust their strategy to
accomplish the mission.
Development
Air Supremacy was programmed in C# and utilized the Windows .Net 2.0 and XNA technologies. Developed using Visual Studio 2005, the game was created to run on both Windows PC's and
XBox 360 videogame consoles. The application required realtime monitoring of user
input and realtime updating of the graphics and sound systems. All data was stored
in XML format allowing for an easily custimizable game experience.
Graphics and Sound
Three-dimensional models were created of game objects were created using the Lightwave
3D application. Models include the F-22 Raptor, B-2 Spirit, F-117 Stealth Fighter,
SR-71 Reconnaissance, and the Nimitz class aircraft carrier. These scale models were
created using specifications contained in resource materials for modern military
aircraft and naval vessels. Even the missiles are based upon real world air-to-air
missiles.
Other artwork included the title screens, menus, radars, gauges, and other user
readouts required in a game of this sort. The Photoshop application was used to
create the variety of high-resolution artwork and screen overlays.
The sounds effects are samples acquired from real world hardware and modified using
a variety of applications. The sound effects are scheduled and prioritized for playback;
synchronized to the activities unfolding in the simulated world.
